{"id":1431,"date":"2026-03-24T09:07:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T07:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tapyom.com\/?p=1431"},"modified":"2026-03-24T09:07:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T07:07:13","slug":"how-to-create-stunning-hanging-baskets-a-diy-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tapyom.com\/?p=1431","title":{"rendered":"How to create stunning hanging baskets: A DIY guide\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"cb-itemprop\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you are thinking of hanging baskets, how to conjure them up, planting colourful\u00a0plants, and hanging them from your garden or patio, then\u00a0this is for you.\u00a0With\u00a0living spaces becoming smaller and\u00a0gardens decreasing in size,\u00a0gardeners are\u00a0constantly\u00a0looking\u00a0for clever ways to incorporate plants into\u00a0their\u00a0lives. \u00a0Hanging baskets\u00a0can\u00a0make a dead space come to life, adding an extra dimension to\u00a0gardens and even indoors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Here\u2019s\u00a0what\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0need to plant a hanging basket:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hanging\u00a0baskets (wire, woven wicker, or wood)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Basket liner\u00a0(with\u00a0a thick layer of moss from your garden or sustainably sourced sphagnum moss)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Plants\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hand trowel\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A short pot for balancing the basket on while planting\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Peat-free multi-purpose compost\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Newspaper and scissors\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Here\u2019s\u00a0how to get going:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Start by\u00a0locating\u00a0the area where your basket will be hanging.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Choose<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a sturdy basket<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, ensuring the chains or<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">rope<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> can support the weight of the plants.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Most\u00a0hanging baskets, if not woven, have drainage holes. If not, drill some\u00a0holes;\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0want your flowers to have wet feet.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Potting Mix:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It\u2019s\u00a0time to mix the peat-free multi-purpose compost\u00a0with your potting soil. Add a handful of\u00a0organic\u00a0fertiliser. If\u00a0you are planting up seedlings that need more moisture,\u00a0you can\u00a0add\u00a0the newspaper in, as this will\u00a0retain\u00a0water for longer.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Place your hanging basket on a plastic pot, nestling it in the opening. This way, you can fill up your hanging basket with ease, as it will not fall to the side.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Fill the bottom of your basket with the potting\u00a0mix\u00a0you have mixed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Place the bigger plants in the\u00a0centre\u00a0of the basket, and if you have trailing or smaller plants, place them on the sides.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Continue to fill the rest of the basket with your soil mixture and gently firm down.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Give it some good watering and add a\u00a0liquid\u00a0fertiliser once\u00a0a month to your watering. You need to water your hanging basket regularly when it is dry.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">When hanging your basket, don\u2019t hang it so high that you cannot enjoy what you have planted. Suspend it at your eye level.
