Winter\u00a0shouldn\u2019t\u00a0mean you should hang up your gardening tools. Most of South Africa\u00a0is still\u00a0fortunate to have clear and sunny days during the coldest season of the year, making winter gardening perfectly possible.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Although South Africa has\u00a0relatively temperate\u00a0winters, climate conditions do vary between regions. Spreading mulch in your garden will help protect the soil from damage caused by wind,\u00a0cold\u00a0or frost.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mulches also\u00a0protect\u00a0the ground from soil erosion and compaction from heavy rains in the Western provinces.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Winter-flowering plants
